Grapefruit - Red Grape - Orange
Vibrant, structural and complex! - Another Mongers fav!
We’ve been counting down the days until this incredible lot finally landed on our roasting bar!
Packed with rich and juicy Cherry notes, a deep, sugary fragrance, and a brilliant light acidity, leaving a mouth-watering finish, this coffee is an absolute standout. It brews a remarkably punchy, vivid cup that completely handles a delicate pour-over and brings a massive burst of character to espresso.
Kiambu is a region that needs no introduction for true coffee obsessives, and this stunning lot captures exactly why we fall in love with Kenyan coffees year after year. Cultivated by the dedicated smallholders of the Kimaratia cooperative, these SL28 and SL34 varieties thrive at soaring elevations of 1,800 to 1,900 metres above sea level. The high altitude combined with iron-rich, red volcanic soil forces the cherries to ripen slowly, concentrating sugars and locking in a dense, fiercely complex acidity that leaves a lasting impression.
The Kimariatia FCS is located in Kiambu County, on the slopes of the Aberdares Mountain range. The cooperative consists of three washing stations, Gachika, Gichuka and Gitare. Gachika is the largest washing station of this cooperative.

The Story Behind the Score: Kenya Gachika SCA 87
In the specialty coffee world, coffees are blind-tasted and evaluated by certified Q-Graders using the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) protocol. To earn an SCA 87 designation, a coffee must exhibit excellent clarity, a pleasant body, and well-defined tasting notes while remaining entirely free of flavour defects.
